Spicy Hamachi (King Fish) Sushi Taco - a whole new way to eat Sushi!

Having eaten sushi often, why not add a twist when making it at home and turn it into sushi tacos? How does that sound?

The so-called taco is more about the concept. The finished product is resembling Mexican tacos, and bursting with complex flavours. Besides the Mexican influence, the main inspiration for this dish comes from Japanese sushi. The rice is reimagined and pressed into round patties, then pan-fried until both sides are crispy. This gives it a slightly warm feel. Paired with a homemade spicy sauce and rich hamachi (yellowtail king fish), it's a perfect combination.

If hamachi isn't available, you can use tuna sashimi as a substitute, but it's best to avoid using salmon. Most salmon are farm-raised, and some have added colorants to achieve their vibrant hue. It's better to consume less of it raw.

This fragrant scallion and spicy hamachi pan-fried rice taco can be enjoyed as a main course or as a snack!

Making this hamachi pan-fried rice taco is very easy. Mix rice with sushi vinegar, then press it into round shapes using plastic wrap. Pan-fry each side over low heat for 2 minutes until golden brown. Next, finely chop the hamachi and mix it with mayonnaise, Sriracha sauce, soy sauce, sesame oil, and scallions. Place this mixture on top of the rice patties and add avocado, a perfect companion for sushi. The slightly crispy rice patty combined with the rich hamachi is a perfect match, and the flavorful homemade spicy sauce is a stroke of genius that elevates the entire dish. Sushi lovers must try it!

Ingredients(serve 2)

King fish Sashimi

120g (about 12 pcs)

Avocado

1 bulb

Chive

2 sprigs

White Rice

1 bowl

Sushi Vinegar

3 tbsp

Mayonnaise

2 tbsp

Sriracha Sauce

1 tbsp

Sesame Oil

1 tbsp

Japanese Soy Sauce

1 tbsp

Sesame

2 tsp

Steps

1. First, cook the white rice. Once cooked, let it cool for a while. While it's still slightly warm, add sushi vinegar and mix well. Set aside.

2. Chop the chive finely. Dice the king fish sashimi into small pieces. Slice the avocado.

3. Mix the mayonnaise, Sriracha sauce, sesame oil, soy sauce, and half of the chopped chive together.

4. Mix the diced king fish with the sauce, then place it back in the refrigerator until ready to use.

5. Take a piece of plastic wrap and place two tablespoons of sushi rice on it. Shape it into a ball first, then press it flat into a patty shape. Repeat this process to make a total of about six patties.

6. Heat a pan over low heat and add a little oil. Place the rice patties in the pan and cook for 2 minutes on each side until golden brown. (You can cook up to 3 patties at a time; cooking too many at once can cause them to break apart.)

7. After searing the rice patties, serve them on plates. Top each patty with avocado slices, spicy tuna, sesame seeds, and more chopped chive to finish.
